Melting strictness and brightness into a stimulating yet quiet atmosphere

Extension and rehabilitation of a general and professional high school: classrooms, multipurpose rooms, workshops, laboratories, a kitchen and a cafeteria, as well as collective housing. A phased construction, carried out in an occupied site.

In the northern suburbs of Paris, our practive undertook the profound rehabilitation of outdated equipment with the creation of this high school, whose architecture continually balances between rigor and vigor.

Behind its principal façade strongly marked by the perforated aluminum sun blinds and the multicolored glass, the building unfolds its 10,000 square meters around a three-floor high atrium where circulations of each floor, differentiated by bright colors, take root in a Mondrian-style composition.

The architects aimed for a seamless connection between the old building (built in the 1970's) and the new extension to create a vibrant and comfortable environment which would be stimulating for the students.

The school’s image is completely renovated, from obsolete and insufficiently equipped to a true 21st century school, modern, dignified and adapted to its symbolic functions. It appears as prime evidence of the efforts made on the modernization of regional school facilities.
