Playing a key role in the redefinition of an ex-industrial city

Secondary school for 600 students and housing for the staff, plus a public gymnasium.

The new secondary school is anchored to the former Phillips factory chimney in memory of the industrial heritage of Ivry-sur-Seine. The project designed by our agency in association with Mootz and Pele assembles, at the foot of this conical totem, orthogonal volumes with facades of glass and wood, on two or four levels. The simple apertures reveal a weighted three-tone polychromy: wooden tones, blood red, and light green. The building’s envelope is covered with quiet horizontal and vertical rhythms, subdivided in a binary fashion.

To this composition was added, rather than a school yard, an authentic garden or a small urban park, generously planted and welcoming. The circular and rectangular lawns are juxtaposed side by side as are the strong curve of the monumental chimney and the rectangular volumes of the new secondary school for the children of Ivry.
